xTOS machine the true Falcon successor? (30.11.2001 - 11:30 Uhr)

Die geplante xTOS-Maschine auf Basis der ColdFire-CPU von Motorola schickt sich endgültig an, ein "echter" Falcon-Nachfolger zu werden. Wie auf der Webseite des Projekts bekannt gegeben wurde, wurde der Entschluss gefasst, die Déesse-Karte von Frontier Systems standardmäßig in das System zu integrieren. Die Déesse verwendet den DSP56301, der Rechenleistungen von bis zu 100 MIPS bei 100 MHz ermöglicht. Damit können Atari-Anwendern wieder auf eine Maschine hoffen, die im Bereich der Audiobearbeitung zu Höchstleistungen fähig ist. (tr)

Eine neue Slideshow für den STE feiert Sänger und Sängerinnen und spielt digitalisierten Sound ab. Die Bilder sind im Photochrome-Format. Wenn Sie einen persönlichen "Heroe" oder ein bestimmtes Thema in der nächsten Version der Slideshow wiederfinden möchten, sollten Sie sich an den Entwickler wenden. (tr)

ARAnyM (06.11.2001 - 05:10 Uhr)

ARAnyM steht für "Atari Running on Any Machine". Ziel des Projekts ist es, eine Virtual Machine zu entwickeln, die es erlauben soll, Atari-Software auf jeder unterstützten Hardware zu entwickeln und zu betreiben. Grundlage der Entwicklung ist dabei der derzeit beste Classic-Atari, der Falcon mit Afterburner 040. Die 68040-Emulation stammt aus dem Amiga-Emulator UAE. Laut den Entwicklern arbeiten sogar MiNT und MagiC bereits unter ARAnyM, erste Screenshots existieren. Die Atari-VM wird unter der GNU-Lizenz veröffentllicht, eine erste öffentliche Version steht zum Herunterladen bereit. (tr)

PDF-Print 1.05 (06.11.2001 - 04:10 Uhr)

Der PDF-Druckertreiber PDF-Print für das professionelle Publishing-Programm Calamus SL ist zu einem wahren Renner geworden. Egal, ob über das Bundle-Angebot zusammen mit Bridge 5 oder ob allein – viele Calamus-Anwenderinnen und -Anwender nutzen seit dem Erscheinen von PDF-Print dessen praktische Möglichkeiten, Calamus-Dokumente WYSIWYG als PDF auszugeben, vor allem zu Druck- und Belichtungszwecken.
Aber es gab auch Verwirrung. So fragen immer wieder User, wann denn der Einsatz von PDF-Print sinnvoll wäre und wann die PDF-Ausgabe von Bridge 5 besser sei. invers Software hat auf seiner Webseite daher einige erklärende Worte veröffentlicht.

Die aktuelle Version von PDF-Print trägt die Nummer 1.05 und ist vom 25. Oktober. (tr)

Porthos 1.25 (05.11.2001 - 06:10 Uhr)

Der PDF-Reader "Porthos" liegt ab sofort in der Version 1.25 vor. Wichtigste Neuerung ist, dass das Programm nun auch unter dem Betriebssystem N.AES läuft. Hinzu kommen zahlreiche Fehlerbeseitigungen. Übrigens läuft Porthos noch nicht auf dem Atari TT, die Ursachen dafür sind noch nicht gefunden, es wird jedoch mit Hochdruck an einer Lösung gearbeitet. Death Derby: Neues VCS-Spiel in Arbeit (05.11.2001 - 05:10 Uhr)

Death Derby ist ein neues Spiel für die klassische Spielkonsole Atari VCS 2600. Das Spiel ist ein Port des Arkadenspiels "Death Race", das wiederum von dem Film "Death Race 2000" inspiriert wurde. Auf der Website des Entwicklers Glenn Sauders kann die Entwicklung von Death Derby verfolgt werden. (tr)

Der VCS 2600-Emulator z26 für DOS- und Windows 98-Systeme liegt in der Version 1.51 vor. Die aktuelle Version enthält einige Berichtigungen. Das Programm und der Quellcode finden sich auf der Webseite des Entwicklers. z26 wird in der aktuellen Ausgabe der st-computer getestet. (tr)

Programme von Joachim Fornallaz bald Open Source (05.11.2001 - 05:10 Uhr)

Der Programm-Entwickler Joachim Fornallaz wird seine Atari-Programme in Kürze als Open Source veröffentlichen. GEMSetup wrtd bei realisierbaren, nicht allzu umfangreichen Wünschen weiterentwickelt. Zu seinen Entwicklungen gehören Tools wie MacSound, Reveal und AppStart. Auch das ehemals für den Milan II geplante MControl soll veröffentlicht werden, sofern sich die Sourcen noch finden - Joachim hatte einige Datenverluste zu beklagen. (tr)

Catapult ist ein neues Spiel für den VCS 2600-Simulator "VCSS" von Khryssun, dem Autor der VCS-Spiele "Ewok Adventure" und "Yars Quest". Catapult ist ein Port von "Stone Slinger", bietet jedoch viele Erweiterungen. (tr)

Okami 3.0 (05.11.2001 - 05:10 Uhr)

Okami ist ein Programm zum Offline-Editieren von E-Mails und Newsmeldungen. Okami wurde offiziell von seinem Entwickler engestellt. Überraschenderweise erschien nun aber die Version 3.0B-3, die eine komplette Überarbeitung darstellt und zahlreiche neue Leistungsdaten bietet. So wurde die Behandlung von MIME-Multipart-Nachrichten optimiert und die Benutzeroberfläche überholt. Eine komplette Liste der Neuerungen findet sich auf der Webseite der Entwickler. (tr)

10 hours of Atari music on the GBA (04.11.2001 - 09:10 Uhr)

Arnaud Carré, better known to scene connoisseurs as "Leonard", has released his first sound demo for the Gameboy Advance. It contains no less than 9 hours and 56 minutes of music tracks from classic Atari and Amiga games. The Atari tunes are almost exclusively by Jochen Hippel (Madmax/TEX). The ROM with 240 Atari and 33 Amiga tunes can be downloaded from Leonard's website (697 KBytes). (tr)

Development of PhotoTip will continue (04.11.2001 - 07:10 Uhr)

PhotoTip, a program for controlling digital cameras and image processing is being further developed. After the last release 3.00 has been on the market for some time, the developer Durs Locher informed us that a new version should be released soon. (tr)

The British online magazine "MyAtari.net" has added an interesting article to its current issue about the British company iFone, which plans to present Atari games for WAP mobile phones. Among the expected releases are games like:

XL/XE tunes in WinAMP (03.11.2001 - 09:10 Uhr)

For the audio player WinAMP there is a module for playing XL-/XE chiptunes in SAP format. The current version of the plug-in also supports the possibility of displaying information about the played tunes in WinAM. This is made possible by using STILView, a database that contains information about the tunes in the ASMA archive. The extension can be found on the ASMA homepage. In addition, a new SAP player and a new SAPMAKER, among other things, were released at the same address in October. (tr)

UDO Open Source (03.11.2001 - 08:10 Uhr)

UDO (Universal Document) is a proprietary text format, which can be translated into various other (hyper-)text formats (including ST-Guide, HTML, Apple Quick View, Windows Help). The software was available as shareware for various operating systems and was released by the author as open source under the GPL at the end of October. The website that has been set up serves as a platform for UDO users and developers on the internet. It offers introductions, current information and also a mailing list. As the online magazine atos reports, some developers have already been found who want to continue the project. (tr)

Calamus SL2002 is here (02.11.2001 - 07:10 Uhr)

The year 2001 is not even quite over, but Calamus SL 2002 is already here. Completely surprisingly, invers Software released the brand new version of its professional layout and media production application. And the innovations are numerous:

• Calamus SL2002 offers a real print preview of the current documents on the screen. You can control all print parameters, separation settings, spot colours, transparencies, screenings, imposition methods, fine data embedding directly on the screen before printing. The new bleed elements (grey wedge, colour wedge) as well as rotating different bleed area margins offer you even more production security.
• Up to now you could use up to 999,999 pages and 9,999 master pages per document in Calamus. SL2002 takes you a big step further: Use as many layers as you like per page or master page to structure the page contents even further. Create multilingual documents, catalogues with different prices, complex layouts in no time at all. Layers that are not needed are simply hidden and not printed out. Of course, multiple automated text flow chains per page are now possible. With the groupable layers you save even more time when creating the basic layout.
• With Calamus SL2002 you gain more time and overview with large documents. The new text ruler management offers all possibilities to design even very large documents (books, journals, diploma and doctoral theses, reference books etc.) faster than ever before. You select defined text rulers directly in the document layout and use the new coloured rulers to see and correct design errors immediately. Global text layout changes are possible with one mouse click.
• Finally you can colour palette images directly in Calamus - and of course with spot colours. With a few mouse clicks you adjust scanned company logos to the right customer colours. Create new effects with coloured images. Colour masking of images with spot colours is now superfluous, which also makes printing and exposure even faster. You always wanted to be able to use properly graded duplex images in Calamus, with spot colours or palette colours? Or even triplex, quadruplex images? SL2002 makes it easy for you. Palette colours like HKS can now be calibrated on the screen and easily converted into other colour spaces.
• The user interface has also been revised and now finally offers a preview when laying out documents.
• Numerous modules and drivers have been revised and are available in new versions in the scope of delivery and as add-ons.
• The CD-ROM contains the contents of the SL2002 complete manual as HTML output.

At the same time invers Software published its new price list which is valid from 01 November. The complete package Calamus SLC2002 (with all modules) costs DM 5865.53. The standard delivery Calamus SL2002 is sold at DM 1367. An upgrade from version SL2000 is available for DM 174.07, from SL99 for DM 291.42. Still offered is also the Light version at a price of DM € 50.--, which is based on Calamus SL2000.

Sondigit 4.08 (01.11.2001 - 12:10 Uhr)

Sondigit is a program for working with samples that has been continuously developed since 1987. In the meantime, version 4.08 from 20 October 2001 is available. Sondigit works on every Classic Atari as well as on Medusa, Hades and Milan. MagiCMac is also supported with the separately available sound driver (see below). The following sound formats are offered:

• SPL.
• AVR Audio Visual Research.
• WAV Microsoft RIFF-WAVE.
• AIF Apple Interchange File Format.
• DVS Falcon Winrec

Sondigit is available as freeware for free download. The program itself is available in French and English, the documentation only in French. (tr)
